2023 Nov 15

The New Cornerstone Investigator Program recently announced the list of scientists selected for its second round of funding, and included institute member Professor Xin Jin among its esteemed recipients. Professor Jin is currently a Professor at the School of Life Sciences, East China Normal University, and the Associate Director of the Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics. He has completed a series of pioneering works in the areas of neural circuitry and motor control in the basal ganglia of the brain. In the future, Professor Jin’s lab will focus on the neural mechanisms of how the brain decides "what to do" and "when to do it" - In particular, the lab is highly interested in examining the functions of different types of cells in the basal ganglia neural circuits and how they interact with the cerebral cortex and thalamus to control behavior. Professor Jin plans to analyze the basic principles of brain control of movement while providing important basis and reference for the treatment of neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia.
