Lab affiliation: Speech, Language and Neuroscience Group (SLANG)

Linmin Zhang graduated with a Ph.D. degree in linguistics from New York University in September 2016. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the NYU-ECNU Institute of Brain and Cognitive Science at NYU Shanghai. Her research focuses on natural language semantics and pragmatics, its brain basis, and its computational modeling. She uses findings from formal semantics and pragmatics to design psycho-/neuro-linguistic experiments, investigating how meanings are represented and processed by the human brain in real time. Moreover, she uses computational methods to quantitatively study the factors that weigh into the semantic processing by the human brain and develop artificial intelligence models.

Research Interests

Broad: Neurolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Natural language semantics;

Narrow:

  • Neuro-/Psycho-linguistics: Neural basis of semantic representation and composition, Processing of functional words, MEG/EEG.
  • Formal semantics: Negation, Coordination, Adjectives, Numerals, Attitude reports, Discourse particles, Causality, Bayesian inference.
