Within the East China Normal University (ECNU) Zhongbei campus, there are two animal facilities supporting research activities by the faculty members of the NYU-ECNU Institute of Brain and Cognitive Science.
Fully compliant with local regulatory requirements, the conventional facility for working with large animals included animal housing, experimental labs, a surgery suite, and other support function areas totaling approximately 1000 square meters.
Animal care is provided to all animals every day, including weekends and holidays. Aspiring to achieve internationally recognized standards for laboratory animal care and use, a portion of the animal facility underwent voluntary assessment by AAALAC International in 2018, led by the animal care team at NYU Shanghai. With support from the leadership at both ECNU and NYU Shanghai, the NYU-ECNU Institute of Brain and Cognitive Science is working towards the implementation of the same standards for the campus.
